Orion Engineering Corporation and Intergrid, L.L.C. Team to Produce New Family of DER Integration Products

Orion Engineering Corporation (Orion) and Intergrid, LLC have formed a team to produce a new “Low-Cost System for Integration of DER Employing Local Adaptive Intelligence”.

The combination of Orion’s neurofuzzy software solution layered on Intergrid’s low-cost local hardware is expected to produce for the first time a scalable integration system for aggregation applications of small and medium Distributed Energy Resource (DER).  

The advantage of the distributed control system is that control can be achieved with one-way broadcast of real-time price signals reflecting such items as energy demand, the need for ancillary support, and local air quality.  

One-way broadcasting eliminates the need for the extensive bi‑directional communication required when control decisions are implemented from a central location.  

Additionally, the intelligent adaptive control system learns how to run the local DER system and is capable of operating attached DER efficiently even when communication to the central command center is lost.
